British politics are currently consumed by Brexit, the scheduled withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. Following a British June 2016 referendum, in which a slim majority of participating voters voted to leave, the UK government formally announced the country’s withdrawal and started a two-year process that was due to conclude in March 2019. As the UK parliament three times voted against the negotiated withdrawal agreement, that deadline has been extended twice, and is currently scheduled for October 31, 2019.
