First, The Shopping List for a Good Life

(With a Digital Nomad focus; growing in length)

35 Food Items:

  1. Apples - Green, preferably, but red go great with gummi bears (think “Sneaky Chef” principle)

  2. Bananas

  3. Beans - Beans of the soak-overnight variety are best; if you consume canned beans, stews, etc. try to be sure there’s no meat (I’ve noticed how the preservatives involved affect my sleep); beans of course go great with rice

  4. Bread - Whole Grain

  5. Broccoli

  6. Cocoa - I’ve started making every second morning cup a cup of cocoa to cut down on the caffeine

  7. Coffee

  8. Couscous

  9. Honey

  10. Hot sauce - For me, the hotter the better; adds a kick to the veggies

  11. Hummus - Perfect for spreading on that whole-grain bread and dipping of veggies

  12. Lemons - For flavoring water, if nothing else

  13. Mandarin Oranges - I prefer these over traditional oranges and tangarines (which, of course, are a variety of mandarin)

  14. Mixed Greens

  15. Mushrooms

  16. Oatmeal

  17. Onion - Red

  18. Olive Oil

  19. Oranges

  20. Peanuts

  21. Peppers - Jalapenos and Serranos

  22. Pistachios

  23. Popcorn

  24. Potatoes

  25. Raisins

  26. Rice (brown)

  27. Rice cakes

  28. Sauerkraut

  29. Soup - Like hummus, goes great with bread and veggies (and hummus-smeared bread dipped in soup is even better)

  30. Soy milk

  31. Strawberries

  32. Tangerines - I prefer these over traditional oranges

  33. Tomatoes

  34. Walnuts

  35. Water - I discovered Borjomi during my visit to Georgia; another way I make it easy for myself to stay hydrated is using the peels of my oranges for flavoring

  36. Yogurt - Vegan yogurt (made from soy milk, for example) with banana is a great way to great hydrated in the morning

Other stuff (four things):

  1. Paper napkins - Handy in places like Egypt, where locals often consider Kleenex acceptable as napkins

  2. Plastic wrap - Never assume the place you’re staying in has it; keeping leftovers fresh more than pays for itself

  3. Razors - Triple-blade

  4. Soap - Dove

  5. Toothbrush (replace at least every three months)
