First, The Shopping List for a Good Life
(With a Digital Nomad focus; growing in length)
35 Food Items:
Apples - Green, preferably, but red go great with gummi bears (think “Sneaky Chef” principle)
Bananas
Beans - Beans of the soak-overnight variety are best; if you consume canned beans, stews, etc. try to be sure there’s no meat (I’ve noticed how the preservatives involved affect my sleep); beans of course go great with rice
Bread - Whole Grain
Broccoli
Cocoa - I’ve started making every second morning cup a cup of cocoa to cut down on the caffeine
Coffee
Couscous
Honey
Hot sauce - For me, the hotter the better; adds a kick to the veggies
Hummus - Perfect for spreading on that whole-grain bread and dipping of veggies
Lemons - For flavoring water, if nothing else
Mandarin Oranges - I prefer these over traditional oranges and tangarines (which, of course, are a variety of mandarin)
Mixed Greens
Mushrooms
Oatmeal
Onion - Red
Olive Oil
Oranges
Peanuts
Peppers - Jalapenos and Serranos
Pistachios
Popcorn
Potatoes
Raisins
Rice (brown)
Rice cakes
Sauerkraut
Soup - Like hummus, goes great with bread and veggies (and hummus-smeared bread dipped in soup is even better)
Soy milk
Strawberries
Tangerines - I prefer these over traditional oranges
Tomatoes
Walnuts
Water - I discovered Borjomi during my visit to Georgia; another way I make it easy for myself to stay hydrated is using the peels of my oranges for flavoring
Yogurt - Vegan yogurt (made from soy milk, for example) with banana is a great way to great hydrated in the morning
Other stuff (four things):
Paper napkins - Handy in places like Egypt, where locals often consider Kleenex acceptable as napkins
Plastic wrap - Never assume the place you’re staying in has it; keeping leftovers fresh more than pays for itself
Razors - Triple-blade
Soap - Dove
Toothbrush (replace at least every three months)
